Schalow, 84, of rural Belding died Saturday afternoon, January 4, 2014 at Spectrum Health in Greenville. Everett was born on April 24, 1929 in Morley, the son of Albert and Mertie (Bacon) Schalow. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army. After the war he worked as a union carpenter and at Gibson’s. Everett enjoyed fishing, visiting with people, tinkering with things and spending summers at Chippewa Lake. Most of all Everett was a family man who was always willing to help others. He was married on February 9, 1952 in Belding to Wanda VanHoose. Everett is loved and survived by his wife Wanda and their children; Marilynn and James Wilkinson of Owosso, Brenda and Frank Wood of Stanton, Evelyn and Darrel Bishop of Saranac, LeRoy and Cindy Hubbert of Seattle, Larry and Sue Hubbert of Belding, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, three sisters and one brother. Everett was preceded by his parents, two brothers; Merlin and Albert and two sisters; Ruth and Esther. Funeral and committal prayers will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Eben Smith of the Belding Free Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring in Greene Cemetery, Belding. Memorials may be given to the Alvah N. Belding Library.
