The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, July 27, 1939

Peter Scheer died shortly after 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at his home on 
North Jefferson street following an illness of about a year.  He had been an 
employee of the State Savings bank as janitor for three years and was also 
janitor of the Webber block.  He had been absent from his duties for the past 
six months.

Funeral services for Peter Scheer, 51, who died at his home on North Jefferson 
street Thursday afternoon will be held from the home at 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 
from the St. John’s Evangelical church of which he was a member, at 3 p.m.  
Rev. R. A. Rook, pastor of the church, will officiate at the rites.  Interment 
will be in the family lot in Highland park.

Peter Scheer was born August 23, 1887 in Hungary, coming to the United States 
when he was 19 years old.  He settled first in New Brunswick, New Jersey, then 
came to Ionia in 1913, residing here since then.  He was employed at the Hayes 
plant in Ionia, an automobile factory in Lansing, and for the past three years 
was an employee of the State bank and janitor for the Webber block.  He had 
been in ill health for over a year.

Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth, 52, a daughter in Flint, four stepsons, 
Peter Schneider of Saginaw, John, Frank and William of Ionia, his mother, Mrs. 
Eva Waltner, three brothers and three sisters, all living in New Brunswick, 
New Jersey.  Mrs. Waltner, 78, will be in Ionia for the funeral services, 
making the trip by motor to Ionia for the second time in four weeks.
