Gordon Edward Scheid, 66, of Saranac passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002.  He 
was born Feb. 18, 1936, in Ionia, the son of Bernard and Olga (Edwards) 
Scheid.  He graduated from Ionia High School in 1953.  He went on to marry 
Patricia Sheaffer July 13, 1957 in Ionia.

He attended Spring Harbor College and Michigan Military Academy.  He was in 
Michigan National Guard from 1953 to 1986 retiring as colonel.  He was the 
superintendent-manager for Ionia County Road Commission from 1956 to 1992 and 
manager of Ionia Airport.  He was a member and chairman of the Board of Public 
Works.  A member of Ionia Moose Lodge 998, American Legion 1010 Greenville 
Post, Ionia Elks 548 and Michigan Engineering Society.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Saranac; son, Steve (Michelle) Scheid 
of Grayling; daughter Kathy (Dan) Sawyer of Grand Rapids; one sister, Joyce 
(Robert) Hamp of Ionia; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Lake Funeral Home in 
Ionia.  Interment Easton Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 
and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials to American 
Cancer Society.
