Bernard M. Scheid, 85, of 320 Summit Street, Saranac, died Jan. 27, at Ionia
County Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Keene Township Aug. 24, 1906, the son
of Albert and Mary Wickham Scheid.  He worked at Ionia County Road Commission
for 40 years and owned and operated Bernie’s Coffee Shop on M-21 for 25 years. 
He was a member of Ionia Elks and Ionia County Fishing and Hunting Club.  And if

He was married to the former Olga Edwards on June 22, 1927, in Sheridan.  She
preceded him in death July 23, 1983.  Surviving are his son Gordon E. Scheid of
Saranac; his daughter Joyce Hamp of Ionia; four grandchildren; eight great
grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucille Shively of Grand Rapids and Marie
Leonard of Saranac.  Four brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday from the Lake Funeral Home, with the
Rev. Stanley Hagemeyer officiating.  Burial will be in the Easton Cemetery.  The
family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.  A memorial has
been established for the Saranac Fire Department, in care of the funeral home.
