He was born September 3, 1933, in South Haven, the son of Bernard and Bernice Spaulding Scheidt. He attended Lake Odessa schools and married Esther King on July 9, 1955, in Belding. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was employed at the E. W. Bliss Mfg. Co. in Hastings for 23 years. He and his wife owned and operated the Lake Odessa Laundromat. He is survived by his wife Esther; four sons, Jack of Ionia, John of Blanchard, James of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Donald Jr. of Lake Odessa; four daughters, Julie Lindsey of Lake Odessa, Jo and Janette Thompson of Sunfield, and Jerri Crissman of Orleans; 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Richard of Charlotte and Roger of Arizona; eight sisters, Donna Besko of Lake City, Barbara Busch of Chesaning, Marvel Bessner of Hastings, Peggy Rider of Scottsville, Marion McVay, Ardene and Phyllis Lackey and Gretchen Farrell of Lake Odessa; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the Koops Funeral Home, Lake Odessa, with the Rev. George Aton officiating. The family will be at the Koops Funeral Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
