Scheidt, Age 82, of Ionia, formerly of Lake Odessa, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011 at her residence. She was born November 12, 1928 in Grandville the daughter of Leslie and Frances (Rose) Shoemaker. She married Wendell “Bud” Scheidt on January 20, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 13, 2002. Together with her husband, Bub, they owned and operated Scheidt Hardware in Lake Odessa for over 30 years. Loraine loved people and enjoyed card games and Dominos and found that this was a good way to connect with them. She knitted many afghans and quilts, which she gave to her family and also donated to the Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids and the V.F.W. in Lake Odessa. Loraine was a wonderful cook, especially soups, which she would take to neighbors and friends. Together with her husband, Bud, she enjoyed her music ranging from the old standards to contemporary jazz. Loraine also enjoyed MSU football and basketball and carried the Spartan flag for Bud following his passing. Loraine was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Scheidt; brothers, Donald and Arnold; and sister, Madellon. Surviving are her children, Wendy (Tom) Barnum, Diane (Dave) Meyer, Tom (Judy) Scheidt and John (Darci) Scheidt; grandchildren, Samantha, Morgan, Brett, Hogan, Carly, Sadah, Drake and Quincy; great grandchildren, Riley, Grayson and Hazen; sisters, Norma O’Mara, Barbara Ockerman, Marlene (Robert) McKinney; brother, Dale (Eileen) Shoemaker; sister- in-law, Mary Shoemaker; numerous nieces and nephews and YaYa Sisters – Peg Faulkner, Eunice Goodemoot and Bernie Goodemoot. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:30 – 12:00 pm on Sunday, May 29, 2011, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 pm at the Koops Funeral Chapel – Lake Odessa. Relatives and friends will have the opportunity to leave written memories of Loraine for the family to read at a later time.
