The death of Mathias Scheidt occurred in the hospital at an early hour Monday morning, where he had been taken on Saturday evening. Mr. Scheidt was suffering from blood poisoning resulting from an injury to his hand received while at work in the basket factory. About ten days ago he was using a canthook and in some manner the hook struck him in the back of one of his hands making a small wound which he did not consider dangerous and simple remedies were used by himself and his wife in treating it. Last Thursday he came home from work complaining of its paining him quite badly and later Dr. Dutt was called. On Saturday his condition became so serious it was decided to take him to the hospital, where he continued to grow worse and became delirious and flighty, passing away at about 1:30 a.m. Mr. Scheidt was 41 years old and had lived in and about Belding about fifteen years, coming here from Salem. He leaves besides his wife, who is a sister of Peter Martin and of the late Jacob Martin, three children – George, Edward and Celia. He worked for a long time in the basket factory and was a faith full employee. His sudden taking away is a very severe blow to his family. The funeral was held Wednesday morning from the Catholic church Rev. Fr. Zindler officiating. [Transcriber’s note: There is a notation on the obituary card that he was buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in Belding.] File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/s/scheidt25815nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
