Ionia Daily Sentinel-Tues. Aug. 8, 1911

Frank Schiedt, 24 years old, was drowned while in bathing with several young men in
Flat river five miles south of Belding. He was taken with cramps. The body was recovered
after being in the water fifteen minutes. the brother came near losing his life in
attempting a rescue. Scheidt was engaged to be married shortly to a young woman of that
vicinity.

DROWNING IN KEENE
Frank Scheidt. Aged 23,, Loses Life in Grand River.

The second drowning which has occurred in the county since the opening of the
present bathing season, was that of Frank Scheidt, the 23 years old son of John Scheidt of
Keene township, on Saturday evening. The accident was witnessed by a number of relatives
and friends, who were not aware of the fatality until too late to prevent it. After the
day's work had been done, Scheidt in company with a brother and nephew, and a neighbor and his
children, had gone to the river for a swim. After being in the water for some time,
the swimmers noticed the absence of Scheidt, and a search was commenced at once for the
boy. One of those who was assisting in the search was nearly drowned. When found,
the body was  in eight feet of water, and it is supposed that death was brought on by a
cramp. The Scheidts live about two miles from the Brink school house. Funeral on Wednesday
morning at ten o'clock from the Catholic church at Miriam, in Otisco.
