Lake Odessa Wave-Thursday April 23, 1959

DORA SCHEIDT DIED FRIDAY
Mrs. Dora Scheidt, 96, Lake Odessa's oldest resident, passed away Friday morning 
at Pennock Hospital, where she was admitted Wednesday. She had been in good 
health for her age until about two weeks ago.

Mrs. Scheidt was born at Homer but moved to Nashville when five years old and 
lived there until her marriage to James Scheidt on February 5, 1889. They moved 
here and he was employed as blacksmith before operating the hardware store for 
many years. Most of her married life she spent in the apartment above the store 
and in her home on Fifth Ave., which they sold when he retired and made their 
permanent home in the apartment. He passed away in 1943.

After recovering from her fractured hip she spent much time making doll clothes, 
kept up her correspondence, enjoyed television and visiting with friends and her 
family.

Gov. Williams visited her last summer which was a pleasant surprise and the only 
time in her life a Governor had visited her or shook hands with her.

Mrs. Scheidt was a member of the Congregational Church and Woman's Fellowship of 
the church. Although in later years was unable to attend.

Surviving are two daughters Mrs. Gayle (Bernice) Galloway of Ionia and Mrs.Doris 
Northrop of Northville; one son Bernard of Lake Odessa; 20 grandchildren; 58 
great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Pickens Funeral Chapel 
with burial in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. A.J.Pitman officiated.
