SCHEIDT LAKE ODESSA - Bernard H. Scheidt, 85, of Route 1, Lake Odessa, died Feb. 3, at the Pennock Hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was born January 22, 1899, in Lake Odessa, the son of James and Dora (McGraw) Scheidt. He attended Lake Odessa Schools. He married - Bernic Spaulding in 1917. They had 11 children. He later married Maudie Nash in 1946. She preceded him in death in August, 1974. Bernard was a railroad agent from 1917-1964 for the Pere Marquette and later the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. His hobby was as ham radio operator in which he reached more than 500 people from all walks of life all around the world. Surviving are his daughters, Donna Besko of Ovid, Mavel Bessmer of Hastings, Barbara Bush of Chesaning, Marian McVay, Ardine Lackey, Phyllis Lackey and Gertrude Farrell, all of Lake Odessa, Peggy Rider of Baldwin; three sons, Roger Scheidt of Phoenix, Arizona Richard Scheidt of Charlotte, and Donald Scheidt of Lake Odessa; 48 grandchildren; 63 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Northrup of Haslett and Mrs. Gayle (Bernice) Galloway of Lake Odessa; several nieces and nephews; five step daughters; one step son; several step grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Picknes-Koops Funeral Home in Lake Odessa with Rev. Randall Kohls and Rev. George Speas officiating. Burial was in the Lakeside Cemetery.
