October 10, 1974 Bernice Scheidt Dies at Hospital Mrs. Bernice I. Scheidt, 77, passed away Saturday afternoon at Pennock Hospital, Hastings, where she was hospitalized for 32 days. She was born in Lansing April 21, 1897, the daughter of Walter and Delia (Francis) Spaulding and was a 1915 graduate of the central High School in Lansing. Mrs. Scheidt resided inLake Odessa since 1938 and had owned and operated a restaurant in Lake Odessa from 1955-1972 and was known by all as Grandma Scheidt. She was a member of the Congregational Church, the Women's Fellowship of the church, the Refuge Rebekah lodge and the Past Noble Grand Club. Surviving are eight daughters, Mrs.Henry (Donna) Besko of Ovid, Mrs.Herman (Marvel) Bessmer of Hastings, Mrs. Henry (Barbara) Busch of Chesaning, Mrs.Howard (Marlan) McVay, Mrs. Lawrence (Phyllis) Lackey, Mrs.Vance (Ardene) Lackey and Mrs.Charles (Gretchen) Farrell all of Lake Odessa and Mrs.Thomas(Peggy) Rider of Central lake; three sons Roger J. of Williamston, Richard A. of Charlotte and Donald M. of Lake Odessa; 48 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, also a cousin Mrs.Mae Watzel of Lansing. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3:30 at the Pickens-Koops Funeral Chapel. Rev. Gary Evans officiated with burial in Lakeside cemetery.
