Dec. 19, 2013 Belding- George F. Schenden, 62, of Houghton Lake formerly of Belding, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon Dec. 17, 2013 at home. George was born on Feb. 6, 1951, in Greenville, the son of Robert and Lenore (Muns) Schenden. He graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1969 and following graduation served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a past member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Miriam. George was an avid hunter, fisherman, enjoyed woodworking and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was always willing to help his many friends and neighbors. He was married on Sept. 29, 1973, at Parnell to Paula Outman. George is loved and survived by his wife, Paula; and their children, Amy Marie Zwart of Traverse City, Matthew Paul Schenden of Long Lake, Rebecca Lynn (Tod) Frandsen of Belding; his grandchildren, Lindsey, Lorynn, Zach, Cooper, Parker , Charlotte, Ethan; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim (JoAnn) Schenden of Greenville; his nieces and nephews, Jason (Stacy) Schenden, Joe Schenden, Josh (Mindy) Schenden, Ted Ciganik and Megan Nagle. George was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Schenden. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Miriam, with Father Darrel Kempf president. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church and one hour before mass. Committal prayers will take place at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Diabetes Foundation. A celebration of his life will also take place in Houghton Lake at a later date. Funeral care has been entrusted to John-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding.
