Sentinel-Std. - Friday, July 8, 1949

Mrs. Clara Rice Schermerhorn, 78, died in Traverse City, Friday morning after an 
illness of several years.

Mrs. Schermerhorn was born in Easton township, the daughter of Caroline and 
George Wandel. She lived all her life in Ionia county. She married to Sylvester 
Rice and they operated a grocery store in South Ionia for some time. Several 
years after his death, she married Mr. Schermerhorn, who preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Ionia Methodist church.

She is survived by two sons, Orlo and Russell Rice, and several grandchildren, 
all of Detroit; one brother, L.J. Wandel of Dildine; and two nephews, Elba and 
Harold Wandel of Lyons.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Boynton Funeral home Monday at 2 
p.m. with Dr. Howard A. Smith officiating. Interment will be at the family lot 
in Highland Park cemetery.
