Scheurer, at the Evangelical Association church, at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, was well attended by the long-time friends of deceased, whose home had been in Ionia for nearly forty years. The services were conducted by Rev. C. C. Staffeld, pastor of the church. Interment was in Oak Hill. John George Scheurer was born in Bondorf, Wurtemburg, Germany, March 9, 1826. He was married in 1851, to Pauline Louise Walter, and in 1853, they came to America, settling first at Ann Arbor, where they remained three years, locating in Ionia in 1856. His wife died in 1866, and in 1866 he was married to Louise Gastler. By the first union there were seven children, five of whom are living, and by the second, three, two of whom survive. The names of the living children are: Louise, Fred, Mina, John, Emma (wife of J.W. Phillips, Lowell), Mary and Bertha. The only other relative of deceased living in this county is Mrs. Frederick Stebb, of Ann Arbor, who with her husband, attended the funeral. Deceased had once been an active man in business affairs, and enjoyed the confidence and respect of the community. Of late years, he had been feeble, and had dropped out of the turmoil, but was known as a man of kindly impulses and social disposition, which gave him a strong hold upon many old-time friends.
