Mrs. Scheurer was attempting to light a stove in the dining room of her farm home with gasoline when the explosion occurred. The blast set fire to her clothing and she ran into the yard ablaze. She rolled on the ground to extinguish the fire and then walked to a neighbor for help. She was removed to the Ionia Memorial hospital for treatment of second and third degree burns and then was transferred to the Grand Rapids hospital. Mrs. Scheurer was the wife of Bert Scheurer, Ionia farmer. She was born in Lyons Township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hopkins. She made her home in Orange Township for the past 39 years. Surviving besides the husband are one daughter, Mrs. Leonard Hausserman of Orange township; five sons, Harold, Shirley, Robert, Allen of Orange and Kenneth of Portland; several grandchildren, two sisters; and seven brothers. She was a member of the LeValley Methodist church where services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm. The Rev. Henry Ball will officiate. Interment will be in Balcom cemetery. Prayer services will precede the services at 1:30 pm at Myers funeral home.
