John Albert Schurer, 88, of 422 North Jackson street died at Blodgett Memorial 
hospital, Grand Rapids, on Labor Day after being a patient there since August 
25.

He was born in this county Aug. 6, 1860, the son of John and Pauline Scheurer. 
A retired farmer, Mr. Scheurer spent his entire life in this county. On 
November 16, 1888 he married Clara E. Smith, who died Nov. 18, 1942.

Before his retirement in 1912, he acted as Ionia township treasurer, and for 
several years in the late twenties he was supervisor of the fourth ward. 

He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. C.O. McMeen of Detroit and Mrs. Wayne 
Quigley and Mrs. R.F. Sykes of Muir; one son, Louis E. Scheurer of Detroit; and 
a sister, Mrs. Emma Phillips of Detroit.

His remains repose at his home after Wednesday morning until Thursday afternoon 
at 2 o'clock when services will be conducted from the Myers funeral home by Dr. 
J. Lee Lewis. Interment will be at Highland Park cemetery.
