Harold L. Scheurer, 84, of Ionia, passed away Friday, April 2, 1999.  He was 
born October 13, 1914 in Orange Township, the son of Albert and Maude 
(Hopkins) Scheurer.  He married Bertha Schlosser April 19, 1935 in Lyons, and 
farmed in Orange Township his entire life.  

He was preceded in death by two sons, Harold A. and Gerald L. Scheurer; two 
brothers, Shirley and Kenneth Scheurer; sister-in-law, Joyce Scheurer; and 
brother-in-law, Lloyd Whipple.  He is survived by his wife, Bertha; daughters, 
Betty (Kendall) Know of Alabama, and Peggy (Joseph Sr.) Russman of Portland; 
son, John (Marie) Scheurer of Lyons; daughter-in-law, Joyce Scheurer; two 
brothers, Robert Scheurer Sr. and Allen (Berneda) Scheurer; one sister, Jean 
(Leonard) Hausserman; three sisters-in-law, Maxine Scheurer, Jeanette 
Scheurer, and Marguerite Whipple; and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, 
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the LeValley United 
Methodist Cemetery, 1461 E. David Hwy., Ionia, with Pastor David L. Flagel 
officiating.  Interment will follow in Balcom Cemetery, Ionia.  The family 
will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 1301 E. Grand River 
Ave., Portland, today and Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. 
and one hour prior to the service at church, with funeral home hours from 9 
a.m. to 9 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to 
LeValley United Methodist Church in memory of Harold L. Scheurer.  Pallbearers 
will be Ronald Hausserman, Robert Scheurer Jr., Allen Whipple, Craig Scheurer, 
Michael Scheurer and Phillip Scheurer.
