He was born January 9, 1890 at Findlay, Ohio, the son of Frank M. and Minnie Carmon Schlernitzauer. They made their home there where his father was a glass blower and as a young man he traveled extensively with his father. He came to Ionia in 1925 to assist his father and brother in the operation in Frank’s five and ten cent store. In 1927 he moved to Greenville and managed the store there until 1929 at which time he moved back to Ionia and to manage the Ionia store. He also drove truck and traveled, supplying the surrounding stores. He bought the Frank’s store in Carson City in 1950 and his son Frank was manager until it was sold in 1955 at which time he retired. He was married February 8, 1926 in Detroit to the former Catherine Micks and she survives. Also surviving are his son Frank L. of Lighthouse Point, Fla., two daughters, Mrs. James Prime of Lansing and Mrs. David Botruff of Ionia; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, William of Ionia. He is a life member of Ionia Hunting and Fishing lodge and past member of Elks lodge. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Boynton funeral home with Rev. Robert McComb of First Presbyterian church officiating. Intombment will be at Highland Park mausoleum.
