The Ionia Standard, Friday, April 17, 1896

Herman Schmid succumbed to the inevitable effects of his severe illness, at 7 
o’clock Tuesday evening, at the residence of his parents on North Jefferson 
street.  He was aged 27 years; was married in December of ’93 to Miss Edith 
Wodrich, and leaves one young child.  The funeral will be attended from the 
Church of Christ, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Herman was an honest and amiable young man, and had a host of fiends who will 
be pained to hear of his death.  He went to Ann Arbor last summer, and endured 
an operation for appendicitis, and his life was then in the balance for some 
time, but he recovered sufficiently to leave the hospital and return home.  
His strength since that time has been of fluctuating quantity, and death 
finally claimed him.
