Schmidt, 79, of Ionia, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. Mildred M. McArthur was born on Nov. 21, 1920, the daughter of Blain and Elizabeth (Styles) McArthur. Mildred grew up in the Detroit area where she attended school. She married Gordon A. Schmidt on Jan. 29, 1944. Mildred worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement and completed her associated degree in 1975. Mildred enjoyed painting, reading, but most of all being part of her grandchildren’s lives. Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her husband, Gordon; two daughters, Karen (William) Whorley of Saranac and Patricia (Timothy) Guarino of Coldwater; grandchildren, Patrick (Carol) Whorley of Grand Rapids, Michael and Mark Whorley of Saranac, Elizabeth Guarino of Coldwater; four great grandchildren of Ionia and Saranac; sisters, Shirley (Harold) Nichols of Muskegon and Gerrie Taskett of Taylor; sisters-in-law, Betty McArthur of Rochester Hills and Carol (George) Frisby of Harbor Springs; brother-in-law, Earl Schmidt of Ionia and many nieces and nephews. Gravesides services for Mrs. Schmidt will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2000 at 1 p.m. in Easton Cemetery for family and friends with Pastor Jamey Nichols of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Memorial contributions for Mrs. Schmidt may be made to the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. Cook Funeral Home of Ionia is handling arrangements.
