Ionia Sentinel Standard, page 7, 10 Dec 1936

Gottfried Schmidt, 59, superintendent of the package department of the Grand
Valley Packing company and brother of its president Chris Schmidt, died about 9
o’clock Wednesday night at his Ionia home, 503 North Rich street, after three
days’ illness with pneumonia.

Schmidt was born at Pfalzgrafenweiler, Wurtemburg Province of Germany, and came
to Ionia from Detroit nine months ago.  He was taken ill at the home on North
Rich street early in the week.  He had been working at the local plant just last
week.

Funeral services will be held from the Chris Schmidt Detroit home Friday
afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. 

Schmidt was not married.
