The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, March 13, 1971
Orin Frederick Schmidt, 80, died of an apparent heart attack Friday morning at 
his home at 210 Adams.  Born in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, January 1, 1891, 
he was the son of Albert and Dorothea Muehl Schmidt.  He attended school at 
Menomonee Falls and North Central college at Naperville, Illinois, graduating 
with a degree in languages.

He taught school at Rogers City and a year at Genoa, Illinois, before moving 
to Ionia in 1916.  August 8, 1916 he was married to Bessie C. Randall at Zion 
United Brethren church in Ionia and they celebrated their golden wedding 
anniversary in 1966.  He worked at Staffords several years and at Grand Valley 
Chair company before retiring in 1956.  He is a member of Zion United 
Methodist church.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie, three sons, Leland of Los Angeles, 
California, Gordon of Milford, Earl of Jackson; two daughters, Mrs. Roy Cook 
of Ionia and Mrs. George Frisbey of Brighton; three brothers, Maynard and 
Clifford of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Wilmer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two 
sisters, Mrs. C. J. Perrin of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Mrs. J. L. Bossard 
of Mequon, Wisconsin, 12 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Mr. Schmidt will be at Leddick funeral home until noon Tuesday when he will be 
taken to Zion United Methodist church for services at 1 p.m.  Rev. Chester 
Erickson will officiate and interment will be at Tuttle cemetery.  A memorial 
has been established for Zion United Methodist church.  Family will be at the 
funeral home Sunday and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
