Oct. 7, 2008 Frederick A. Schmitz, of Pewamo, age 83, loving husband, father, grandfather and loving person passed away on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008. He was born on Feb. 14, 1925 in Fowler, the son of Michael and Regina (Feldpausch) Schmitz. Mr. Schmitz worked for Consumers Power for many years before retiring in 1987 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Society. He was a Veteran of World War II serving the United States Army and was a member of the Fowler, Pewamo, Westphalia VFW Post. He loved fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with his family and with his dog, Blue. He always enjoyed their camping trips up to School Section Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond “Rip” Schmitz and Aloysius “Al” Schmitz. He married Rosaline Cook on June 22, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo and she survives him. Also surviving are 8 children, Frederick R. (Gale) Schmitz of St. Johns, Daniel (Valerie) Schmitz of Ionia, Rosemary Schmitz of Arizona, Robert Schmitz of Pewamo, Luke (fiancé Lorraine) Schmitz of Pewamo, John (Tina) Schmitz of Pewamo, Thomas (fiancé Mary Kay) Schmitz of Ionia County and Jacqueline (Robert) Fall of St. Johns; 17 grandchildren; 17 great –grandchildren; siblings, Edward (Joan) Schmitz and Michael (Hilda) Schmitz of Westphalia, Marjory Platte of Westphalia, Jeanette Thelen of Ovid, Wilma Bambrick and Alice Hoover of Lansing, and Gertrude (Jerome) Schafer of Dewitt; sister-in-law Wilma Schmitz of Westphalia; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrate by the Rev. Charlon O. Mason, Pastor at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo with Rite of Committal following at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Military Honors will be provided by the Fowler, Pewamo, Westphalia Post. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary’s funeral Chapel, Westphalia from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. A rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Monday.
