Ionia County News (Pg. 7) - Thursday, June 6, 1946

Matt Schmitz, 83, a native of Germany, and a resident of this vicinity many 
years, passed away suddenly Thursday, May 23, at his home east of town. Funeral 
was held at St. Johns Catholic church in Hubbardston, Saturday, May 25, with 
burial in Portland cemetery. He leaves one son, Joe, of Belding; a sister in 
Ionia and one in Portland. His wife preceded him in death a few months ago.
