Schmolz at his home, 524 West Main street, took from the city a well-known and highly respected citizen who had lived here all but three of the 68 years of his life span. Illness that brought on his death had extended over a period of seven years and forced him to retire from active work four years ago while serving in the income tax division of the internal revenue department. His headquarters at that time were at Muskegon and much of the territory he covered was about Grand Rapids. Born in Liverpool, Ohio, Mr. Schmolz came to Ionia with his parents when a small child. Practically his entire lifetime was spent here and he had resided for 30 years in the house where he died. Mrs. Schmolz died several years ago. Mr. Schmolz held memberships in the Elks’ lodge and the Maccabees. Surviving him are three children, Russell Schmolz, of Cleveland, O.; Brs. Bruce O’Connell, of this city, and Mrs. Howard Bunnell, of Lansing; a brother, Frank Schmolz, of Cleveland, O., and six grandchildren. Dr. Paul L. Stewart will conduct the services at the residence Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 and these will be followed by commitment services at the Highland Park mausoleum by the Elks’ lodge.
