Jan. 18, 1945 GEORGE W. SCHNEIDER George Washington Schneider, son of John and Elizabeth Young Schneider, was born in Odessa township April 4, 1869. At the age of five he moved with his parents to Ionia, where they lived until the spring of 1881, when they came back to Odessa township, to the farm which was his home for so many years. He was a loyal member of the Woodland Evangelical church, where he was always an ardent worker, being ready to serve in whatever position he was placed, having held various of her important offices. He loved the church and when unable to attend services in his home church he delighted to unite in worship with God's children of other denominations. He was deeply interested in and solicitous for the welfare of the youth of the church and the community. In 1937 Mr.Schneider left his farm home and purchased a home in the village of Woodland where he was residing at the time of his departure. In 1936 he was chosen as treasurer of the insurance company which position he held six years. In these various interest that were entrusted to him he exercised as much prudence and care as in administering his private affairs. He was alway a staunch supporter of what he believed to be right, no matter what the cost to himself personally. His busy life has closed. On Friday, Jan 12, he answered the summons of his Commander and laid aside the toils and responsibilities of this earthly life. A loving father, true and kind, Whose work on earth is o'er, Has passed from sorrow and from pain To the celestial shore. His work on earth was well performed; His race of life well run; At length he heard the Saviour say, "Well done, my child, Well done." Dear father, thou art now at home; Thou art enjoying rest; Rest with the angels, with thy God, With friends and with the blest. thy home above is better far Than home on earth had been; So, father dear, we would not long To have thee back again. At last, dear father, we do hope Around God's throne to stand, To praise the lord with harp and song, As one dear family band. There we will be forever blest; There dying will not come; There we shall all forever rest In our Celestial home.
