March 13, 1925 GRAND OLD LADY PIONEER PASSES An Early Settler of Michigan, Mother of Splendid Family, Leaves Christian Influence. One of the loyal Christian characters of this county was Mrs.Elizabeth Schneider, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs.Nora Yerty at Belding, March 3rd. Mrs. Schneider raised a splendid family of seven children who have inherited a Christian character that premieres their own lives and adds to their citizenship. She saw many of the privations of early pioneer life but her later years were blessed with all the comforts and tender care that loving children could bestow. A short service was held at Belding Thursday morning and the body was brought to the home of her son George Schneider, east of town Thursday afternoon. Friday afternoon the funeral was held. Rev.A.J. Hettler giving the sermon and the singing was by Mrs.Fred Eckardt and Mrs.Sam Schuler. Burial was at Lake Side. Elizabeth Schneider, nee Young, was born in Buffalo, N.Y., January 24, 1840. Left an orphan in early life she was reared in the home of Noah Bowman near Berlin, Ont. On March 21, 1858 she was united in marriage with John Schneider. Together they traveled the journey through life until February 267, 1916, when Mr Schneider was called to his reward. Seven children were born to this union, four sons and three daughters, one daughter dying in infancy and one son Byron, in 1919. In the early sixties this couple moved into the woods of Michigan, later coming to Ionia. In the late sixties they moved to Odessa Township, settling on a farm in what is now known as the Limerick School district. In February 1881 they moved to a farm two miles east of Lake Odessa where they resided until 1910, from there going to Woodbury which was her home until two years ago when she went to live with her daughter at Belding, where she passed away on March 3, 1925, at the ripe age of eighty-five years, one month and nine days. Her end came peacefully and as a shock full ripe for the garner so He giveth His beloved sleep. The deceased was converted under the labors of the sainted Rev. F. Schweltzer and joined he Evangelical church, continuing steadfast in her faith to God and the church to the end. To attend the services of the church was her delight and joy, which she did regularly until prevented by feebleness attendant with old age. Her Christian fortitude and trust in God were her support in her declining years. Her last illness was of a short duration. She leaves to mourn, but not as those who have no hope, three sons, George W. of Lake Odessa, Oscar Y. of Ludington and Bejarmin R. Of Woodland, and two daughters, Mrs. O.L. Yerty and Rose Schneider of Belding, fifteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, besides a large circle of friends. IN APPRECIATION To wish hereby to extend our heartfelt thanks to our kind friends for their sympathy and floral offerings. To the singers and to the Minister for his comforting word, during the loss of our beloved mother. Also to those who so kindly furnished their cars for service. Mr and Mrs Geo. W Schneider and family, Rev. and Mrs O.Y. Schneider and family, Mr and Mrs B.R. Schneider and family, Mr and Mrs O.. Yerty, Miss Rose Schneider, Mrs. Byron Schneider and family.
