SCHOLTENS, GLADYS M. (SMITH) (MRS. JOHN A.):
   SENTINEL-STANDARD, IONIA, MI, 1-31-1995, p 2:  "OBITUARIES - Gladys M.
Scholtens - IONIA - Gladys M. Scholtens, 83, of Traverse City, formerly of
Ionia, died Jan. 26, 1995, at Grand Traverse Medical Care Facility.
   She was born Jan. 31, 19ll, in Ionia County, the daughter of Warner and Emma
(Slowinski) Smith.
   She married John A. Scholtens in Ionia in 1928.  She had been a resident of
the Traverse City area for the last 20 years.
   She is survived by one son, Russell (Corkey) Scholtens, of Sutton Bay; one
daughter in-law, Betty Scholtens, of San Diego, Calif., three grandchildren;
nine great-grandchildren, two sisters:  Ilene Northrop and Thelma Renucci, both
of Ionia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and one son, William R.
Scholtens.
   Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m., at the Meyers Memorial
Chapel, 148 Main St., Ionia.  The Rev. Joseph Fremer of St. John's Lutheran
Church will officiate.  Burial will be in Easton Cemetery.
   Visitation was held Monday.
   Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the church of your
choice.  Envelopes are available at the funeral chapel."
