Ionia Shopper's Guide - Sat.November 18, 2023

               SCHOLTENS

Robert J."Bob" Scholtens, age 93, passed away on November 7, 2023 at Green Acres 
of Ionia. Robert was born on June 5, 1930 in Ionia,MI to Ethel (Getting) and 
William J. Scholtens, where he was raised and lived s adventurous childhood. Oh, 
the stories he told!

On August 26, 1950, he married Carolyn Burger and they went on to have 5 
children. early in their married lie he proudly served his country in the U.S. 
Army during the Korean War.

Bob was an avid sports fan and athlete. He enjoyed traveling with their family 
when the children were young. One very memorable trip included 2 parents, 4 
children, Taffy (Family dog) in a sedan hauling an 19-foot travel trailer around 
the country for 5 weeks.That trip was, and continues to be, conversation fodder 
for many family gatherings. Bob was employed by Consumer's Energy for 45 years 
before he retired in 1995.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (2020)and infant son Rick.He is 
survived by his children; Joseph and Pamela Scholtens, John and Theresa 
Scholtens, Brenda and Robert DeHollander and Daniel and Jacki Scholtens; 
grandchildren, Monica and Jeremy Mabe, Cari Scholtens and Matthew Scholtens and 
Melanie Wicander-Scholtens; great-grandchildren,Lilly, Charlies and Evie Mabe 
and Reed Scholtens.

A small graveside service for family is planned.

Memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer's Association and memories and 
messages of condolences may be shared at www.lakefuenralhomes.com.
