Winnifred S. Scholz, 85, of Orleans, passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at
Sheridan Community Hospital.  She was born March 22, 1914, in Hiram, the
daughter of Harvey E. and Zella (Arms) Root.  She graduated from Belding High
School in 1933.  She was a member of the Belding Historical Society, the Belding
Alumni Association, and she attended Shiloh Community Church.  

She married Olice W. Scholz on Aug. 27, 1970, at Woodard Lake.  He preceded her
in death on May 21, 1985.  She was also preceded in death by her father in 1943;
her mother in 1975 and special friend, Dr. John Engemann.

She is survived by two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jimmie A. Root of
Cloverville and Robert C. and LaDonna Root of Orleans; nieces and nephews, Jimmy
A. and Judy Root Jr., Roberta W. Root, Robert C. and Naomi Root II, Thomas H.
and Jennifer Root, Nathan Root, Lynda K. and Randy Winright and Terry Root; many
great nieces and nephews; four special friends, Thelma Whitwam, Winnifred Lentz,
Evelyn Morris and Bette Miller.

She has been cremated in accordance with her wishes.  Memorial services will be
Thursday at 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Kenneth Harger
officiating.  Burial will be in Pierson Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one
hour prior to the service.  Memorials may be made to Shiloh Community Church.
