Oct. 18, 2008 IONIA- Mary Helena (Coe) Schramm, age 95, died Friday, October 10, 2008 at Heartland Nursing Home, in Ionia. Aunt Helena was born September 17, 1913 in Ionia County. She graduated from Ionia High School and married her high school sweetheart, Victor G. Schramm, in 1934. She worked for Reed Furniture Factory in Ionia during the Depression. A few years after her husband graduated from Ferris College as a pharmacist, they moved to Pontiac where she worked alongside him, managing their family business that grew into Schramm Pharmacies. They were blessed with one son, Victor Judson, who was an Episcopalian Priest in New York City, before his death at age 39, in 1984. They retired to their home in Frankfort, Michigan, which sat high on a hill, looking out over Big Crystal Lake and Lake Michigan, and wintered in Panama City, Florida. In their later years, they moved to Hastings, to be closer to family and friends. Helena was a career working mother; a stylish, graceful lady; a loving wife; and thoughtful aunt. She loved to read; and enjoyed receiving bouquets of flowers, cards and visits from family. She shared a long and loving friendship with Gert and Harvey Heppe, and Donna Ackley. She was a descendant of the Coe and Snyder families who were early settlers of Ionia County. She was born in the family home, a stagecoach stop, south of Ionia. Her husband, Victor, predeceased her in 1992. She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Mary Lynne (Mark) Tipping; Valerie Kenter; Mildred Hartman; Judy (Frank) Pearson; Ron (Ellen) Schramm and Maxine Schramm. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews. She had outlived all of her and her husband’s brothers’, sisters’ and their spouses, and three nephews; Harvey, Vernon and Robert Heppe. A graveside memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Kenneth Harger on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 12:00 noon at the Balcom Cemetery, Tuttle Road, Ionia, Michigan. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville.
