Nov. 15, 2012 Doris Ethel (Potter) Schrauben, 91, passed away peacefully Nov. 13, 2012 at her home where she had resided since 1954 and within a mile of her family homestead. Doris was born in Pontiac, Ill., July 6, 1921 and her family moved to Orleans in 1926. Doris graduated from Belding High School class of 1938. Her future husband, Maurice R. Schrauben served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and they were married at the San Diego Naval Base in 1945. Maurice preceded her in death in 1998. Together they operated Schrauben Orchards and M44 Stripping Workshop. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. She was also skilled with crafts including sewing, basket weaving, chair caning, crocheting afghans (one each for her grandchildren), and always had oatmeal cookies ready for visiting family. Doris was a steadying influence for her family and took great pride in her legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survive by children Mary (Denny) Nugent of Parnell, Dan (Barb) Schauben of Ann Arbor, and Bob (Therese) Schrauben of Belding; grandchildren Pat Nugent, Betsey (Todd) Wieland, Kevin Nugent, Kerry (Kyle) Gargaro, Andrew (Amanda) Schrauben, Eric (Julie) Schraubeen, Ryan (Megan) Schrauben, Gabe (Beth Anne Bremer) Schrauben, Ana (Mike) Palmiter, and Adrienne (Mike) Baker; great- grandchildren Ben and Joey Gargaro, Claire Schrauben and Henry Schrauben; and sisters-in-law Joan Potter and Marlene Beckwith. Doris was predeceased by her parents Bert and Nellie (Kunkel) Potter; brothers, Rodney, Hubert, Choral and Dale; husband Maurice; and son Tom Schrauben. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic with Father Mike Cilibraise presiding. Committal Prayers will follow in Orleans Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to African Inland Mission.
