Schrauben, 54, of 710 Detroit St. died Monday. He was born May 14, 1936 in Clinton County, the son of Matthias Schrauben and Mary Ann Trierweiler. He was a self-employed carpet layer, and a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Patrick's Church. Surviving are four sons, James and Nicholas of Portland, Tony of Holt and Russell of Lexington, Ohio, four daughters, Mrs. Deborah Rheam of Grand Ledge, Mrs. Donalyn Stewart of Phoenix, Ariz. Mrs. Denise Ries and Mrs. Therese Schrauben, both of Portland; six brothers, Matthew of Ionia, Donald, William, LaVern and Thomas, all of Portland, and Dennis of Grand Ledge; four sisters, Mrs. Marie Beard and Mrs. Arlene McCrumb, both of Portland, Mrs. Elizabeth Dinkel of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Gertrude Dilly of Newyago, his father, Matthias; and five grandchildren. A sister, Elda Pierce preceded him in death in 1980, and his mother, Mamie, died in 1978. Scripture services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday from the Neller Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Patrick's Church, with the Rev. Donald Weber officiating. Burial will bein Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the six brothers, Matthew, Donald, William, LaVern, Thomas and Dennis.
