MORNING Severely injured in Auto Crash Early Friday Morning When Returning from Party at Portage Lake. Since the news reached this community early Friday morning of the auto accident of the night before, when interns and nurses of the University hospital were returning from an evening at Portage lake. The friends of Miss Gertrude Schuler have been most anxious for news of her condition. The party we understand consisted of about thirty interns and nurses who occasionally enjoy an evening at Portage lake. Returning to the hospital one auto containing seven passengers was going at a high rate of speed when the car left the road on a curve striking a tree, near the village of Dexter. Two doctors and one of the nurses were killed instantly, one doctor being the driver of the car. Miss Gertrude Schuler was severely injured having received a fractured pelvis, broken ribs, punctured lung and the heart driven to the right side. She was taken to the hospital and given the best of oxygen treatments and at times there were hopes for her recovery. Monday evening she grew worse and passed away about five a.m., Tuesday morning. The parents of the girl, Mr and Mrs S.C. Schuler, went to the hospital upon notification and remained there until the end came. The body was taken to the parents home, three miles southeast of Lake Odessa. The funeral will be held Friday at 1 o'clock at the home and then at the Evangelical church nearby. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery. Miss Schuler was a graduate of Woodland high school, then spent one year at Michigan State college before going to Ann Arbor for training. Miss Schuler was 23 years old and was the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Schuler of Woodland township. She received her R.G.N.degree at the University hospital about two years ago since which time she has been employed there. She was very popular in Woodland being prominent in various activities of the schools especially basketball while attending there. Besides the parents the saddened family includes three sisters, Mrs.Walter Cooke in Woodland township.
