Coming to America in 1853 he began work near Battle Creek, where he remained for 5 years. During this time he bought and paid for a farm in Woodland township. In 1859 he was married to Caroline Voelker and they at once moved into the new home where they happily lived for 53 years. To died in infancy. He leaves a widow, three daughters, and one son and with these, Roy Rowlader, who was taken into the home in early childhood and to whom he proved a kind and loving father. He also leaves seven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. He was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and a true friend. Not only the community but all who were so fortunate as to know him held him in high esteem. Mr. Schuler was converted in the year 1860 and was one of the first members of the Woodland Evangelical church.Throughout these years, he was an earnest, consistent Christian true to the trust laid upon him by his church, and a generous supporter of all its enterprises. His presence at the bedside of the sick meant cheer and comfort; his motto seemed always to be "if I can ease one aching heart, my life is not in vain" and in accordance with this sentiment, but ever in a quiet unassuming manner he went about doing good. His life is "as a tale that is told", but the memory of his well spent years will be a lasting benediction to all who knew him. The funeral services were held May 8 at the Evangelical church where ha large congregation gathered to pay their last tribute of love and respect.Rev. Bergey preached the funeral sermon in the German language and rev. Boettcher in the English.Well might the departed one say with the Apostle Paul," I have fought the good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing." CARD OF THANKS We wish to extend our sincere thanks to our friends and neighbors for their assistance during the sickness and death of our husband and father. Also for the many beautiful floral offerings.
