Death came to Mr. Schwab when the light delivery truck which he was driving left the highway at a point on the old US-16 route, about three miles east of the Sweet schoolhouse and within a short distance of the Schwab home. It is thought that Mr. Schwab dozed for a moment or two at the wheel. The truck apparently turned on its side as it left the road, then righted itself in the ditch bottom after which it crashed head on into a tree. An iron brace on the truck lodged in the driver’s skull and death was probably instantaneous. The truck was almost completely wrecked by its impact with the tree. The accident was first discovered about one o’clock the same night by Fritz Wingeier, who noticed the wrecked truck as he was driving by and stopped to investigate. The truck was over turned with the driver underneath. Mr. Wingeier called the Yeiter ambulance. Upon its arrival it was revealed that the driver was Charles Schwab and that life was extinct and he was taken to the Yeiter chapel. The sheriff and a coroner from Ionia county were summoned but an inquest was not deemed necessary. The news of Charles Schwab’s death was received with grief throughout the community. He was born 28 years ago at Elmdale, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Schwab. For the past several years the family have resided on the farm in Boston township. Charles attended the Lowell high school and was graduated with the Class of 1925, after which he attended a Grand Rapids business university. He then served four years as bookkeeper in the Lowell State Bank, later being in the employ of the Morrison Lake Gardens, and still later with W. E. Hall cream station at Lowell. He was in the employ of the Christiansen Ice Cream Co. at the time of his unfortunate death. Surviving are the parents, a brother Joe and three sisters, Mrs. Nicholas Kloosterman of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Wayne Weeks of Lowell and Beatrice at home, and numerous other relatives. There is also left to mourn his betrothed, Miss Jeanne Beathan, niece of Mrs. Henry Klahn of Bowne township, with whom she makes her home. Their wedding would have taken place later this month. Funeral services were held at the South Boston Congregational Church Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Frederick Williams of Baroda, Mich., officiating. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fahrni. Charles was carried to his resting place by six cousins acting as pallbearers. They were Robert and Edward Yeiter and Floyd, Garland, Henry and Harold Schwab. Burial in South Boston cemetery. Charles Schwab was well liked and popular with everyone and the entire community joins in expressions of sympathy to those bereaved.
