Oct. 16, 2013 Greenville- Jimmie dale Scofield, 58 of Gowen, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 13, 2013, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Spencer Township. The son of Erling Dale Scofield and Nell (Childs) Helmer, he was born on April 10, 1955, in Greenville. After graduating from high school, Jimmie served with the U.S. Marines and was the current post commander of the Cleveland-Wolverton Post 3794 in Greenville. On Oct. 1, 1976, in Greenville, he married Pattsy Buche. Jimmie was an avid outdoorsman. He was a mechanic and gunsmith and had won numerous trophies and awards for his marksmanship. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed being "Grandpa Jim" both at Cedar Crest and Lincoln Heights Elementary Schools with the foster grandparent program. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother and a sister. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Pattsy; their son, Andrew and Heather Scofield of Greenville; his mother, Nell Helmer of Alabama; his grandchildren, Jordan, Matthew, Meghann, Sean, Owyn and Aston and many nieces, nephews and in- laws. He will be missed by all as he lived for his family. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin St., Greenville, where envelopes for memorial contributions to Toys for Tots will be available. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, 12501 Montcalm Ave., Greenville, with the Rev. Mark Shaw, lead pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Otisco Township Cemetery.
