Hubbardston, Mich.  Nov. 20—Harriet F., daughter of Daniel and Adelene 
Townsend, was born in Jefferson county, New York, Dec. 31, 1831, and died at 
the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Bennett in Hubbardston Sunday evening, 
Nov. 10, 1912.  She was united in marriage to Laurence Stern Scott, a young 
man of Connecticut, Oct. 2, 1850, and together they came to Michigan and 
settled on a farm in Lebanon township, Clinton county, in 1956.  Fifty years 
of her active life was spent on this farm where by frugality and industry she 
helped to carve out of the wilderness a beautiful home.  A few years ago she 
with her family came to the village to the place which afterwards became the 
home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Bennett.  About six years her husband 
preceded her to the other world.

In early life she was converted and for 35 years was a faithful member of the 
congregational church in Hubbardston.  She was a woman of many sterling 
qualities of mind and heart.  Devoted to her home and friends, loved by all 
who came under her influence.

She leaves to mourn her loss her only remaining child, Mrs. Bennett.  Three 
others dying in infancy.  Two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Jane Hane of Tampa, Florida, 
Mrs. Clarista Townsend of Detroit, several grand and great-grandchildren with 
a host of friends among her old neighbors.

Her funeral was held from the home of her daughter Wednesday, Nov. 13, in 
charge of W. W. Chatfield, pastor of the M. E. church, and her body laid to 
rest in the East Side cemetery in Hubbardston.
