F. Scott passed away at his home in Maple Rapids Nov. 12, aged a little over 77 years. Mr. Scott had been in very poor health for some time and his death was not unexpected. Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday afternoon, Rev. H. E. Wylie preaching the sermon, and interment was made in the Sowie cemetery. Henry Francis Scott was born near Brownville, Jefferson county, N.Y., Sept. 27, 1832. He came to Michigan in 1855, and on Oct. 11, 1857, was married at Lyons, Michigan, to Miss Fanny M. Williston, who survives him. The 52 years of his married life have been spent in Ionia, Montcalm and Clinton counties, in this state, the last 11 years in Maple Rapids. In September, 1862 he enlisted in Co. K., Twenty-first Michigan infantry, but after serving three months was discharged on account of sickness. He was the father of nine children, three of whom died in infancy and early childhood, and one—Mrs. Effie Baker—passed away Nov. 9, 1906. The five who, with their mother, survive him, are Frank Scott, of Ionia, Mich., Charlie E. Scott, of Holland, N.Y., Glenn A. Scott, of Saranac, Mich.; and Mrs. Matie Benjamin and Miss Maud Scott, of Maple Rapids. For many years he lived in his simple, quiet way, a Christian life, which he maintained to the end, notwithstanding his last years were filled with infirmities and suffering.
