Scott, widow of John Scott, a Civil war veteran, died Saturday morning in the Soldiers home hospital in Grand Rapids, where she was taken several days ago for treatment. She was born in New York, but had lived for 75 years in Ionia county, mostly in the city. She was one of the family of 23 children of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Story, one of whom a half-brother, Edward Story, of Hastings, survives. Her marriage took place in Ionia in December, 1865, and two months later her husband enlisted, serving until the end of the war. She also had four brothers, William Urias, Orange and Oliver, who served in the war. Mr. Scott died 15 years ago. These children also survive: Elmina Gritzmacher and Milo Scott, of Lansing; Walter L. Scott, of California; J. W. Scott, of Rudyard; Edward, of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Ferry Conner, of Orleans. She had 15 grandchildren. Subsequent Publication: Monday, May 4, 1931 The funeral services for Mrs. Ellen M. Scott, who died Saturday in the Grand Rapids Soldiers home will be conducted from the Evangelical church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. W. F. Boettcher. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
