Scott, 71, of Belding, passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 4, 2005, under the loving care of his family and Ionia Area Hospice. He was born Feb. 19, 1954, in Greenfield, Tenn., the son of James and Lillian Marcus Scott. In earlier years he had served in the Michigan National Guard, retiring as a first lieutenant. He and his family lived in the Scranton, Pa., area from 1964 to 1997. While there he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and had served as club secretary, was a member of the Scranton Canoe Club serving as commodore and enjoyed golfing. James had also served as chief executive officer of the Servomation Corp. in Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Joyce, later moved to Huntington Beach, Calif., working for U.S. Food Service. In April 1999 James retired and he and Joyce moved to Belding. James was married Sept 4, 1953, in East Lansing to Joyce Maki. James was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Gladys Ann in infancy, Marjorie Kletke and Joyce Jones. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; their children, James G. and Debra Scott of Belding, Gary R. Scott of Cheyenne, Wyo., Jon M. and Carol Scott of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, Sarah and John LeBel, Heidi and Brandon Wenzel, Emily Scott, James Scott, Ryan Scott, Jordan Bare, Jorey Scott; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Brookelynne; brother and sister-in-law, Jack E. and Carlene Scott of Holt; special niece, Barbara Boettcher of Dimondale; and several nieces and nephews. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Scott Lindner of St. Paul Lutheran Church Greenville, officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be given to Ionia Area Hospice or the St. Paul Lutheran Church building fund.
