James R. Scott was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, May 12, 1819 and died at Saranac
Saturday, August 21, 1909, aged 90 years, 2 months and 10 days.  He came to
America when a boy and the family first settled in Canada [Huron Co., ON] and
from there to Michigan about 40 years ago.

Mr. Scott was married four times and the father of twelve children, nine of whom
survive him.  His first wife was Miss Setene Hamilton of Melville, Ont., by whom
he had nine children; his second wife was Hannah Clothier also of Canada the
third was Sarah Fink of Williamston, Mich., and the last and surviving wife was
Miss Lydia Stevens of Saranac, who is the mother of two children.  The children
living are John P. Scott and Wm. R. Scott of Northwest Canada; Wellington of
Sheridan; Walter and James A. of Saranac, and Albert of Holland; Mrs. David
Stevens of Lakeview; Mrs. George Fasset of Sheridan; Mrs. Alma Beach of
Rockford.  A brother of the deceased is Richard Scott of Lo Porte [La Porte],
Ind., who is 83 years old with his wife attended the funeral of his brother. 
There are numerous other relatives, several of whom reside near Saranac.

James R. Scott was an honorable upright man and a good citizen.  Kind hearted
and courteous he was respected by all who knew him.  As husband and father he
was ever indulgent and kind.

He became a member of the M.E. society when a young man and lived a consistent
and exemplary Christian life.

Funeral services were held from the M.E. church Monday afternoon, August 23,
Rev. G. K. Fairbank officiating. Interment in Saranac cemetery.
