Scribner, age 70, a prominent farmer of Ionia township, hanged himself at his home, two miles southeast of this city. He was at one time well-to-do, owned a fine farm and had abundant means. In his old age he met with financial reverses, and was compelled to mortgage his farm. The mortgage was recently foreclosed, and yesterday he was served with a notice to quit the old home; where he had spent many years of his life. This was too much for the old gentleman, and about four o’clock he went to the barn, took a halter, put one end over a rafter and the other around his neck, adjusting the latter from a step ladder he jumped. The body was discovered by his daughter some hours later.
