Came to This Country from England Fifty Years ago – An Invalid Over a Year. Stephen Seckston, an old resident, died at the home of Grant D. Blackman in this township, Sunday evening last at the age of 76 years. Funeral services will be held at the Blackman residence to-morrow at 10 o’clock a.m., conducted by Rev. W.P. French. Stephen Seckston was born in England in 1819, and emigrated to the new world about fifty years ago. He first located in Canada, remaining there about three years, after which he moved to the Empire state. After a residence of two years in New York he came to Michigan. He went to Odessa, this county, when it was an unbroken wilderness, and out of the forest he hewed for himself and family a house. Nineteen years ago he settled in Portland township. The deceased was uncle of Mrs. G. D. Blackman. He left a daughter residing in Rochester, N.Y., and a brother in the township of Sebewa. Mr. Seckston had been an invalid for over a year, and three months previous to his death had been unable to leave his bed. Death resulted from a general breaking down of the physical forces.
