Seely, 48, for 20 years owner of the Tribune Printery of Ionia, died at his home, 10 Lovell place, at 11:45 o’clock Wednesday night following an acute heart attack suffered a short time before. Ill since April 22 with a heart ailment which necesitated his temporary retirement from work, Mr. Seely spent more than a month in bed in a futile attempt to regain his health. He was busily engaged in the printing of the daily harness race program of the Ionia free fair during the past week and had remained at his printing shop until 8:30 o’clock Wednesday evening. He complained of his heart during the evening and was forced to sit down several times. He retired to his home shortly afterward and at 11 o’clock while in bed suffered an attack. His physician was called but he died as he sought relief in a chair. Port Huron Native Earl Seely was born July 6, 1891, at Port Huron, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Seely. His parents moved to Belding while he was a boy where they lived for a number of years. Mr. Seely attended the Belding public schools and later moved to Oklahoma where he became employed in a printing shop operated by his father. He later returned to Ionia and was employed by the Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard as a compositor. After a year he was employed by the Ypsilanti Reed Furniture company in their printing shop and then moved to St. Johns where he worked as a printer. In 1909 he became associated with Merrell Ketchum in the Tribune Printery and purchased Ketchum’s interest a short time later. Mr. Seely was married in Ionia, June 24, 1914, to Miss Edith Markle of Palo, by Rev. E.E. Branch and only a few weeks ago Mr. and Mrs. Seely observed their 25th wedding anniversary although Mr. Seely was too ill to take an active part. At the time of his death he was secretary of the Ionia Lions club and was a charter member of that club assisting in its organization several years ago. He was also a member of the Ionia Elks’ lodge. A Baseball Fan. An ardent baseball fan Mr. Seely followed closely the fortunes of the Detroit Tigers and other major league teams. He was interested enough in the game to learn the individual records of most major league players and could give current information on all active players in both major leagues. Surviving are the wife, Edith, a daughter, Mrs. Russell Hoople, of Ionia and a brother, Lyle Seely, of Lansing. Funeral services will be held from the Myers funeral home Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. George Woolcock of the Baptist church of Ionia will officiate and interment will be at the Oak Hill cemetery in Ionia. Pallbearers will be members of the Ionia Lions club.
