He had not been seriously ill, and so far as general knowledge was concerned was in good health. He went to bed last evening apparently as well as usual; when his daughter went to call him about 8 this morning she found him dead. Dr. Allen was summoned, but his services had for hours been past possibility of help. It is judged he must have died about 6, and the probable cause was heart failure. Although he had been in and out as usual during the winter, he had a feeling that his vitality was weakening; he had suffered four hard colds during the winter, and told a friend that he did not believe he could live through another winter. John Alonzo Sessions was born Aug. 22, 1842, on the parental homestead farm in Berlin. His father, Hon. Alonzo Sessions, was one of the prominent men in public life in this section and the state, and his mother was Celia Dexter, a daughter of the founder of the Ionia colony. John was a farmer, and for many years owned and occupied a large farm just west of his father’s. He was married early in life to Miss Anna Eagle, who died twelve or fourteen years ago. Five children survive: Miss Clara, with whom he made his home in this city; Mary, wife of Jas. R. Taylor, Pontiac; Roy, Grand Rapids; Clyde E., Ionia; and Celia, wife of Geo. Durling, Portland, Oregon. Two sisters and three brothers survive: Mrs. Shelton, of Seattle, Washington; Frank and Richard D., Pennsylvania; Hal. K., Sioux Falls and Mrs. Arthur P. Loomis, Berlin. After parting with his farm ten or twelve years ago, Mr. Sessions came to this city, which has since been his home, although for past seven years he has been manager of A. P. Loomis’ farm just south of town. John Sessions was a man of the highest integrity, whose life was guided on the principle of the golden rule, genial, frank, industrious—the best type of the pioneer stock, and many friends will be saddened by his passing away. The time of funeral cannot be announced until information is received as to the coming of distant friends. Subsequent Publication: Saturday, February 26, 1910 The funeral service for John A. Sessions will be held at the home, corner of Washington and Union, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. Service will be by Rev. G. Webster Moore. Interment, Highland Park.
