The remains were sent here by way of Ionia, and the funeral service was held at the home of Mrs. Mary Banning, who is a sister of the deceased, Rev. C. R. Strobridge officiating. Interment was in the family lot at Oakwood cemetery at Muir. Mr. Settle was born at Vernon, Ohio, September 5, 1860, being one of a family of ten children. When he was seven years of age he came to Muir with his parents, grew to manhood here and was identified with the lumbering interest for many years. In 1884 he was married to Mamie Charles, and two years later they went to Dakota, where Mrs. Settle died, leaving one daughter, Bessie, who is now the wife of Bird Stone. Returning to Muir, Mr. Settle lived here until 1896, when he went to Virginia to enter the employ of the Ritter Lumber Company, and remained with them 23 consecutive years. In 1918 he suffered a stroke of paralysis, after which he returned to Michigan and made his home with his daughter, returning south a few weeks ago to spend the winter. His only surviving brother, Elmer Settle, lives in Detroit.
