Smith The funeral services of James R. Settle were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kelley, Sunday afternoon, January 14, at 2:30. Rev. F. G. Dunbar, pastor of the Ionia Methodist church officiated. Mrs. Beatrice A. Smith played hymns on the piano. Mr. Settle was born in Muir, June 1, 1876. He was the oldest of the family of Mr. and Mrs. William Settle. His early life was spent in Muir. He later became engineer on the railroad and for 47 years has been faithful to his task. His headquarters have been in Chicago. He died suddenly of a heart attack Thursday morning, January 11. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Charles Adams, Mrs. Michael Kelley of Muir, Mrs. William Gardner of Lansing, Mrs. Frank Elvert of Detroit. Also two brothers, William Settle of Flint and Donald Settle of Muir. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Gardner, Mrs. Benjamin Hawthorne, Miss Ruth Gardner, Mrs. Frances Gardner of Lansing, Miss Helen Kelley of Mt. Pleasant, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Elvert and son Edward of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Will Settle and daughter Laura of Flint attended the funeral services of James Settle Sunday.
