Leaves Many Friends and Relatives. After several weeks of suffering Mrs. Egara Shafer passed away leaving many old neighbors and friends besides her family to miss her presence. She lived in her neighborhood about sixty years and will be greatly missed. Obituary Egara C. Crapo was born August 14th, 1846 and departed this life May 2nd 1926 at the age of 79 years, 9 months, 14 days. On April 16th she fell and after five weeks of suffering the end came. She was born in Seneca Co. Ohio and lived there until she was eight years of age, then moved with her parents to Michigan on a farm on which was known at that time as the Clinton trail road. In 1862 she was united in marriage to John Shafer and moved to the home at which place she died. To this union was born five children, Nancy, Elmer, David, Charles and Jacob who preceded his parents in infancy. She also made a home for her grand daughter Ewilda Shafer, daughter of Charles and Ida Shafer from the time she was three years of age until she was married five years ago. She has been both mother and grand mother to her. She was a loving mother and a kind neighbor. She was a member of the United Brethren church and served her God faithfully to the end. She leaves to mourn their loss her children, Mrs. George Mutchler, of Lake Odessa, Elmer Shafer, who lived at home, David Shafer of Fresno, California, Charles Shafer of Ionia, one sister, Mrs. Alma Potts of Lake Odessa, nine grand children, twelve great grand children and two great great grand children and a lot of other relatives and friends who will miss her. The funeral was held Tuesday from the house at 2 o’clock, Rev. Hettler of the Evangelical church officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Lake Side cemetery. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ploughman of Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Shafer of Battle Creek, Mrs. Ray Jackson, of Grand Rapids, Mrs. M. S. Gray and grand son of Ionia and Jesse Crapo of Ionia.
