July 14, 1965 Lyle Shafer Dies at Clare Lyle Shafer 61, of Harrison passed away Friday night at the hospital at Clare, Mich. He had been a patient at the Veterans Hospital, Ann Arbor and was released four weeks ago, then two weeks ago was admitted to the hospital at Clare. He was a native of rural Lake Odessa, and his parents were Charles and Ida VanBuren Shafer. A Veteran of World War II with the Air Force, he served in the South Pacific. Mr. Shafer had owned and operated a garage at Harrison for the past four years going there from Lansing. He formerly was employed by the Good garage here and had also lived at Clarksville. Surviving are his wife the former Jeanette Hekhuls of Lansing whom he married June 24, 1945; and two sisters Mrs. Ray (Ewilda) David of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Maurice (Joyce) Carpenter of Ionia. Prayer service was held at the Chapel at Harrison and funeral services were held at the Pickens Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa. Tuesday at 1:30 with burial in Lake Odessa cemetery. Rev. William Ribbens officiated.
